A paper by Tetiana Liubyva of the Institute of Sociology of the NAS of Ukraine in Spain

10 January 2023

Tetiana Liubyva of the department of methodology and methods of sociology took part in a congress on civil-military sociology (Toledo, 22–24 November 2022) with a paper at the plenary session entitled «The attitude of the population of Ukraine towards the conflict in Donbas and possible external aggression: trust in the armed forces and readiness to take part in the war» (in Spanish).

The paper presented data from the monitoring "Ukrainian society" from 1992 to 2021. Among the key conclusions were the following:

· The military invasion by the Russian army, first of Crimea and Donbas in 2014 and then the full-scale invasion in February 2022, strengthened the sense of Ukrainian national unity and contributed to strengthening the positions of the supporters of rapprochement with the European Union.

· A certain fatigue experienced by Ukrainian society over the eight years of the conflict in Donbas did not weaken the sense of trust in the Armed Forces or the nationwide perception of the importance of a democratic system. And in the emergency that arose in February 2022 there was an unprecedented consolidation of Ukrainians against the occupiers.
