General information

The Institute of Sociology of the NAS of Ukraine is one of the leading institutions training researchers in sociology in Ukraine.

In 2016, under the new rules, the Institute was granted a licence to train doctors of philosophy (the third level of education, based on a master’s degree and at the same time the first research degree) in speciality 054 — Sociology.

In 2023 the licence was reissued in accordance with paragraph 5 of the seventh part of Article 24 of the Law of Ukraine “On higher education” and paragraph 2 of the Final and Transitional Provisions of the Law of Ukraine “On amendments to certain laws of Ukraine” concerning the improvement of educational activity in higher education.

In 2025, by decision of the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance (minutes No. 6 (78) of 22 April 2025), the programme received an accreditation certificate valid until 1 July 2030.

Graduates of Ukraine’s leading universities are currently studying on the Sociology programme. The staff of the Institute of Sociology make it possible to accommodate a wide range of research interests and to pursue research proposals that are theoretical and methodological as well as studies of pressing and socially important problems of contemporary Ukrainian society.

The taught component of the programme is delivered by 13 doctors and 3 candidates of sciences from among the Institute’s staff, who have experience of conducting their own research in the subject field of the course they teach. Supervision is provided by doctors and candidates of sciences whose own research is close to the dissertation topics of the doctoral students.

Doctoral students can obtain advice on matters beyond research. A psychological support service operates for them at the Department of Social Psychology, where they can consult the leading psychologist Inna Liubenko (kamyleta@ukr.net)
