A philosophical and sociological dialogue by the sea

5 May 2025

Sententiae is a journal of the history of philosophy guided by the principles of open access. Its aim is to foster the development of the widest possible range of contemporary research approaches, their active application in practice and the establishment of high standards in the university teaching of philosophical disciplines on the basis of the achievements of the contemporary history of philosophy.

Its chief priority is to secure the empirical soundness of conceptions in the history of philosophy on the basis of the criteria of literalness, exhaustiveness, contextuality and consideration of the existing speculative interpretations. The journal regards these criteria as the methodological foundation of any sound study in the history of philosophy.

The journal was founded by the Society of Researchers of Modern Philosophy (the Pascal Society). Established in 2000, it appears three times a year, on 30 April, 30 August and 30 November. It was recognised as a professional journal in the field of Philosophy by resolution of the Presidium of the Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine No. 5-05/4 of 11 April 2001 and by order of the Board of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine No. 1081 of 29 September 2014. Since 2015 it has been indexed in the SCOPUS abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature.

The latest issue of this prestigious journal (Vol. 44, No. 1 (2025)) carries, in the section “Dialogues on methodology”, an engaging record of a conversation that is informal in form but profound in content between three Ukrainian intellectuals: Inna Holubovych (I. I. Mechnikov Odesa National University, Doctor of Philosophical Sciences, head of the Department of Philosophy) and Olena Liseienko (the State Institution “K. D. Ushynskyi South Ukrainian National Pedagogical University” (Odesa), Doctor of Sociological Sciences, Professor of the Department of Philosophy, Sociology and Management of Sociocultural Activity) received in their native Odesa a guest from the capital — Yevhen Golovakha, Doctor of Philosophical Sciences, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine.
