The Institute of Sociology of the NAS of Ukraine signs a memorandum of cooperation with the National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine

On 10 October the media regulator and the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine signed a memorandum of cooperation, setting down their intentions to work together in the field of media research. The document was signed on behalf of the institutions by the First Deputy Head of the National Council, Valentyn Koval, and the Deputy Director for Research of the Institute of Sociology of the NAS of Ukraine, Serhii Dembitskyi.

The parties set out their intention to work together in conducting research into the needs of media service users, into the popularity of the media and the level of trust in them, and into the media's influence on the formation of social and political views and sociocultural interests. The cooperation will also cover an analysis of the state of development of the media sphere in order to identify problems in the field and determine priority directions for its development.

The memorandum sets down the general directions of cooperation:

• ensuring the exchange of information at the stages of collecting, monitoring, processing and analysing information (statistical data) on various spheres of social life that affect the media sphere;
• conducting research into the needs of media service users, and research relating to or affecting the media sphere;
• collecting and processing information for an analysis of the state of development of the media sphere, taking account of the social, political, cultural, educational, legal and economic processes that affect it;
• holding joint events, including with the involvement of other parties, and so on.

The memorandum takes effect from the date of its signing and will run for 5 years with possible automatic extension.

By the end of the year the Institute will prepare two analytical papers for the National Council and will share interesting work relating to the media sphere.
