Serhii Dembitskyi's interview for the website of the NAS of Ukraine
The Deputy Director for Research of the Institute of Sociology of the NAS of Ukraine, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine, Doctor of Sociological Sciences Serhii Dembitskyi, in an interview for the programme “About Science. Competently” (presented by Academician of the NAS of Ukraine Volodymyr Semynozhenko) specially for the website of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, described the dynamics of Ukrainians' views on the role of the state during the war on the basis of new surveys, above all this year's sociological monitoring survey “Ukrainian Society”.
The scholar stressed that this question has several dimensions: the functioning of the state is one thing, and the attitude towards the state as a value is another, and the latter received very high assessments in the survey and confirmed that for most Ukrainians the state is a value.
The sociologist noted that the instrument consists of five questions. Once processed, the answers to them indicated respondents' predominantly negative or predominantly positive attitude. Before the invasion, social and political negativism prevailed in assessments; after the invasion, the level of negative assessments fell threefold and the level of positive ones rose sixfold. The current situation shows a strengthening of critical and negative assessments, though on different grounds than before the invasion.
Answering the presenter's questions, Dembitskyi analysed the monitoring results in detail and, in closing, stressed once again the importance of conveying to the public the findings of the research carried out at the Institute of Sociology of the NAS of Ukraine, in particular through popular science formats.
