The website of the Institute of Sociology of the NAS of Ukraine has published a popular science material by Oleksandr Reznik, Doctor of Sociological Sciences, "Ukrainians' ideological orientations and the prospect of electoral preferences in the post-war period"
In the developed countries of the world, electoral battles usually centre on such themes as economic policy, migration, climate change, gender issues and the protection of minorities. To these should be added questions of foreign policy, given the current geopolitical situation. The priority of particular questions may of course depend on the historical context and on the specific electoral cycle, but the general and key theme remains economic policy — namely the debates about the level of state regulation, taxation and measures for overcoming economic crises. It was precisely on this that the traditional division of political parties into left and right rested. Left-wing parties, seeking support among the electorate, usually propose increasing the state's role in regulating the economy. They emphasise expanding public services in education and health care and the social protection of vulnerable groups of the population at the expense of taxing the well-off. Parties professing a right-wing ideology, by contrast, call for minimising state intervention and give preference to market mechanisms and the private sector. This ideology is more to the taste of those who believe that everyone's welfare depends on their own skills and efforts. Of late, of course, such ideological differences have become less distinct, since in practice many political parties take moderate positions, combining elements of both ideological approaches.
