The website of the Institute of Sociology of the NAS of Ukraine has published a popular science material by Nataliia Soboleva and Olena Zlobina, Doctors of Sociological Sciences, "The configuration of Ukrainians' fears under war conditions"
The social significance of fears in human life is very great. Fears are a fundamental aspect of human experience. The fear of anticipated negative events and processes that people judge to be probable for themselves or for their descendants plays an important, and in some cases even a dominant, role in the life of the individual and of society. Fears are the reactions of individuals and communities to threats from the external environment, and the degree to which they are experienced expresses an assessment of the degree of risk of existing in a dangerous environment. Fear is one of the defining modes of human existence, organising a person's inner spiritual world in accordance with their system of life values. At the same time fears and their hierarchy within the structure of the population's expectations are a most important indicator of the quality of human life. The degree to which particular fears are experienced — of rapidly rising prices, of possible unemployment, of the risk of becoming a victim of criminals or of bureaucratic arbitrariness — are factors that affect the quality of life enormously.
