The website of the Institute of Sociology of the NAS of Ukraine has published a popular science material by Olena Zlobina, Liubov Bevzenko and Maksym Parashchevin, Doctors of Sociological Sciences, and Svitlana Shevchenko, Candidate of Sociological Sciences, "Ukrainians' mass expectations about the country's future"

Individual and mass expectations about the future can be a notable factor in forming life strategies and tactics and in taking decisions about how to act in various situations. Any plan, after all, rests on conceptions of what will happen in the future, of what personal circumstances and external conditions will be, and of how all this will affect the possibility or impossibility of achieving what is desired. Recording the expectations widespread in a society may therefore help to forecast people's future actions and current social attitudes (which are formed not only on the basis of present realities but also of conceptions of the future).

Expectations may be of different levels and scales. They may differ in their time horizon (from the immediate future to a distant one, months or even years) and in the “fields” they concern (expectations of other people in interpersonal interactions, expectations of change in some local sphere — for instance tax policy or living conditions in a particular place — or expectations at the global level, that is, of events in the country or in society as a whole). It is the last of these levels that we shall consider.
