The first sociological readings in memory of V. M. Vorona, Academician of the NAS of Ukraine

On 5 March 2024 the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine held the first sociological readings dedicated to the memory of V. M. Vorona, Academician of the NAS of Ukraine. The event was timed to coincide with the birthday of Valerii Mykhailovych Vorona, the Institute's unchanging director from 1992 to 2021.

The event took place in a mixed format: more than twenty participants took part online and almost as many in traditional offline discussion on the Institute's premises.

Taking part were researchers and postgraduate students of the Institute of Sociology of the NAS of Ukraine, teaching staff of the Faculty of Sociology of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, the Ukrainian School of Archetypics (Kyiv), the Institute of History of Ukraine of the NAS of Ukraine, the State University of Trade and Economics (Kyiv), the Oleksandr Yaremenko Institute of Social, Legal and Political Studies of the Mykhailo Drahomanov Ukrainian State University, and Kryvyi Rih State Pedagogical University.

In all, 13 papers and presentations were heard and viewed.

At the start of the readings, the Director of the Institute of Sociology of the NAS of Ukraine, Doctor of Sociological Sciences, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine Ye. I. Golovakha addressed the participants with a welcoming word. The papers by M. O. Shulha, Doctor of Sociological Sciences, I. V. Marynich, Candidate of Sociological Sciences, V. S. Reznik, Doctor of Sociological Sciences, and V. V. Smakota, Candidate of Sociological Sciences, recalled V. M. Vorona's scholarly legacy in Ukrainian sociology, various fragments of his biography and the recollections of colleagues and friends.

Interesting papers on social and economic problems in contemporary Ukrainian society were given by E. A. Afonin, M. V. Tulenkov, A. S. Lobanova, S. S. Dembitskyi, O. V. Symonchuk and Ye. V. Siryi, Doctors of Sociological Sciences, M. S. Shyrokova and N. O. Maistruk, Candidates of Sociological Sciences, and O. O. Maksymenko.

Also taking part in the conference were staff of the Institute of Sociology (M. A. Parashchevin, H. I. Chepurko, V. P. Stepanenko, N. V. Kostenko and O. Yu. Klymenko, Doctors of Sociological Sciences; O. I. Burova, T. O. Zahorodniuk, O. O. Ivanenko and I. V. Sokolovskyi, Candidates of Sociological Sciences), and O. V. Horpynych, Candidate of Philosophical Sciences (State University of Trade and Economics, Kyiv).

More about the readings, together with the texts of the papers presented by participants, will appear in the second issue of the journal STMM. Video recordings of the papers will also be published in the coming days.
