A working meeting on carrying out the interdisciplinary research project
On 28 May 2024 the I. F. Kuras Institute of Political and Ethnic Studies of the NAS of Ukraine hosted a working meeting with the participation of representatives of the research institutions taking part in the targeted interdisciplinary project “The solidarisation of Ukrainian society under war conditions and the prospects for preserving and reproducing solidary social potential in the country's post-war development” (2024–2025).
Taking part in the meeting were: the Director of the I. F. Kuras Institute of Political and Ethnic Studies of the NAS of Ukraine, Academician of the NAS of Ukraine Oleh Rafalskyi, the Institute's deputy directors Oleksandr Maiboroda and Yurii Shaihorodskyi and its academic secretary Vitalii Perevezii; the Director of the Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the NAS of Ukraine, Academician Valerii Heiets, and the head of its Department of Social and Economic Problems of Labour Viktoriia Blyzniuk; and the Director of the Institute of Sociology of the NAS of Ukraine, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine Yevhen Golovakha, together with the Institute's Chief Research Fellow Viktor Stepanenko.
The aim of the meeting was to coordinate the institutions' actions in carrying out a research project devoted to studying the phenomenon of the solidarisation of Ukrainian society at one of the most critical moments of Ukrainian history — the period of the Russian-Ukrainian war — with an emphasis on identifying the factors that affect social solidarisation in present conditions and the challenges and threats to that process.
Academician Valerii Heiets stressed that researchers must display their predictive skills and describe now the potential lines of division capable of disrupting social unity. Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine Yevhen Golovakha cited, as an example supporting his hypothesis, the fact that sociologists in their surveys already observe divergences in the positions of representatives of different age groups on the paths along which current processes are developing.
Summing up the discussion, Academician Oleh Rafalskyi stressed that, despite its fundamental orientation, the research is of considerable applied importance, and that a series of analytical papers should therefore be prepared on the project's results to help in taking well-considered state decisions.
