The conversation club “Let's speak Ukrainian” and a language workshop from Ukrainian sociologists

From January to July 2023 Olha Maksymenko, Leading Sociologist of the Department of Methodology and Methods of Sociology, held 15 sessions of the conversation club «Let's speak Ukrainian» (at the Pavlo Usenko district library, Kyiv) and five sessions of the language workshop «Our language — Ukrainian» (at the Ivan Serhiienko children's library). Those attending were both children and adults (mainly visitors to the Rusanivka branch of the territorial social services centre of Kyiv's Dniprovskyi district). The themes of the sessions were: «Getting acquainted», «Family and friends», «Leisure and hobbies», «My small homeland», «The beauty and richness of the native language», «The Ukrainian alphabet», «The new edition of Ukrainian orthography: the main changes», «The vocative case of nouns», «The historical-ethnographic and geographical regions of Ukraine», «The flora and fauna of Ukraine», «Ukrainian traditions», «The work of Mariia Prymachenko and Polina Raiko», «Vyshyvanka Day», «Mother's Day», «Creative work in wartime», «The history of Crimea: the deportation of the Crimean Tatars», «The Constitution of Ukraine — the fundamental law of society and the state», «The Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine» and others. An original methodological guide was prepared and published for each session. In addition, a screening and discussion of the documentary film «The Life of Ivan» (about the life and work of Ivan Mykolaichuk) and of the patriotic film «Cherkasy» was organised with the club's members on the premises of the Pavlo Usenko library. An excursion to the interactive museum «Open a portal into science» was also held. The club continues its work.
