The website of the Institute of Sociology of the NAS of Ukraine has published a popular science material by L. O. Malysh, Doctor of Sociological Sciences, “Consumer activity in wartime: buy cannot save”
The consumer activity of the population regularly attracts research attention, serving as a basis for determining both the general level of citizens’ well-being and the structure of their needs and their planning horizon. In wartime this information is useful for studying the ways in which individuals adapt to adverse conditions, and in particular for assessing their resistance to the challenges of the time. In this brief outline of the consumer activity of Ukraine’s population during the full-scale invasion, we consider three interrelated aspects of it: the structure of expenditure, the level to which needs are met, and strategies of consumer economising.
