A sociologist on Ukrainians' attitudes towards the functioning of the state: the latest data
The second edition based on the results of the latest wave (6 July 2024) of the monitoring study that the Institute of Sociology of the NAS of Ukraine has been conducting since 1991 has been published on YouTube in the programme “Academic Sociology”, on the theme “The state and the people's changeable love… or is it unchangeable?”:
The author of the edition is Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine, Doctor of Sociological Sciences, Deputy Director of the Institute of Sociology of the NAS of Ukraine Serhii Dembitskyi.
The theoretical construct of general attitudes towards the functioning of the state consists of 5 assessments, each with a corresponding empirical indicator in the form of a question.
For example: the first component of the theoretical construct, “Assessment of the effectiveness of the Ukrainian state”, has as its empirical indicator the question “How are the central authorities coping with their duties?” Incidentally, from the beginning of the full-scale invasion to the present, respondents' assessments have worsened considerably (from 53.7% in May 2022 to 7.3% in June 2024 for the statement “The central authorities are coping with almost all of their duties”).
The second component of the theoretical construct is the assessment of the state's future. The third is the assessment of living conditions. The fourth is the assessment of the state's historical achievements. The fifth component is the assessment of current events in the country.
Despite the difficulties and negative tendencies of today's realities under war conditions and a certain decline in optimistic assessments, the value of Ukrainian statehood remains very high for most Ukrainians.
