Yevhen Golovakha turns 75!

Dear Yevhen Ivanovych!

We warmly and sincerely congratulate you — an outstanding Ukrainian psychologist, sociologist and public figure, a scholar well known in this country and far beyond it — on your splendid anniversary, your 75th birthday!

A native of Kyiv, born into the highly intellectual family of Ivan Petrovych Golovakha and Mariia Lvivna Zlotina, both Doctors of Philosophical Sciences and professors, you received a thorough education and swiftly began your research career at the Institute of Philosophy of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, becoming a laureate of the Academy's prize for the best work in the social sciences among young researchers (1982), defending first your candidate's and later your doctoral dissertation, heading a number of the Institute's research units — a sector and a department — and becoming Deputy Director for Research.

On the basis of your own research at that time you became a co-author of the technique of “causometry” — a biographical psychotherapeutic method that spread in the USSR in the 1980s — and the author of your own psychological and sociological interpretation of the mass psychological phenomenon of the social ambivalence of Ukrainian society; documentary films were made on the basis of your research.

You are one of the founders of the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, which you have headed by decision of its staff since 30 November 2021, editor-in-chief of the journal “Sociology: Theory, Methods, Marketing” (since January 1998), a member of a number of prestigious Ukrainian and foreign academic organisations, a laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology (2014), Doctor of Philosophical Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and a worthy representative of Ukrainian sociology recognised at home and abroad.

Together with your wife, the outstanding sociologist and Doctor of Sciences Natalia Panina, you initiated and have authored the annual project “Ukrainian society: monitoring social change”, carried out for almost three decades and unique in Ukraine.

Alongside your research work, artistic creation is no stranger to you either — your poems, aphorisms and other writings combine intellect, lyricism, humour and irony. Your family continues your parents' creative traditions: your brother Anatolii is a writer, poet and translator, and your daughter Inna Golovakha-Hicks is a folklorist and Candidate of Philological Sciences.

We wish you, Yevhen Ivanovych — the head of our Institute and the leader of Ukrainian academic sociology — health, strength and many long years!
