Meeting with Serhii Dembitskyi

On 12 December 2023 the Doctoral Students’ Club met Serhii Dembitskyi, Doctor of Sociological Sciences, Deputy Director for Research.

The online meeting covered a set of highly topical research questions:

1. Research opportunities open to doctoral students today;
2. A review of research tools useful in doctoral work;
3. R and SPSS for data analysis: the pros and cons of the two statistical packages;
4. Is it worth learning a programming language if you have not started yet?

Beyond these questions, participants shared their own experience of using statistical analysis software and of combining several research methods to enrich a dissertation.

Serhii Dembitskyi gave the doctoral students advice on analysing data in R and added: “Any one of us can become a magician and dive into the magical world of research”.

Exchanges of this kind with leading specialists in the field help doctoral students develop their research interests and become part of an active academic community.
