About the publication

Historico-theoretical analysis of research programmes in sociology. A collective monograph / V. Vorona, V. Kazakov, N. Otreshko, V. Pylypenko, V. Reznik, V. Stepanenko; under the general editorship of V. Reznik. — Kyiv: Institute of Sociology of the NAS of Ukraine, 2022. — 249 pp.

The monograph presents the results of research into the experience of receiving, mastering and testing I. Lakatos's post-positivist methodology of the analysis of research programmes in sociology. The origins and the content of the Lakatosian methodology are considered in the context of a comparison of different versions of positivism in sociology and in the philosophy of science. The specific character of post-positivism in sociological research, together with its advantages and limitations in comparison with other social-scientific paradigms, is brought out in a broad and representative multi-paradigmatic context of the social sciences. The elements and the contours of a post-positivist conception of sociological science are explicated. The interpretations and applications of the ideas of post-positivism in analytical-empirical, historico-theoretical and metatheoretical sociological inquiry are systematised. Detailed explications of the trends and the conceptual potential of the theoretical research programmes of civil society and of transculturality are provided.
