The monograph presents the results of research into the problems, the practices and the prospects of theoretical synthesis in contemporary sociology. It explicates the versions of the methodology of theoretical synthesis realised in the historical sociology of C. Tilly and in the conceptions of social practices of P. Bourdieu and A. Giddens. A survey of the different types of theoretical synthesis in sociology is presented. The epistemological potential of the sociological concept of entrepreneurship in explaining social phenomena is determined on the basis of attempts to overcome particular dilemmas in sociological theorising. Synthetic theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of revolutionary processes and of contemporary war are proposed. An explication of the specific features of theoretical integration within research programmes in sociology is presented.
