Bio

BA in Sociology with a minor in economics and entrepreneurship – National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (NaUKMA), graduated in 2001; Specialist in Social Work and Social Management – Academy of Labour and Social Relations of the Federation of Labour Unions of Ukraine, graduated in 2003. PhD in Sociology awarded in 2008. Being at the intersection of historical sociology, sociology of religion, and political sociology, her PhD dissertation explored lines of conflict and congruence between religion and democracy by analysing major democratization-related social movements and reforms in the United States from the 19th century until 1960s. PhD program – NaUKMA; public dissertation defence – the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Upon having completed PhD program in 2006, she has held professorial and administrative positions at the NaUKMA Faculty of Social Sciences and Social Technologies. NaUKMA awards: “For Outstanding Wark, Commitment, and Contribution to the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” and “For Contribution to the Revival of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”.

Participant in the international academic project “National Values and Political Reforms in Post-Maidan Ukraine” (VALREF), coordinated by the University of Oslo (project completion expected in December 2025). International education and research programs: Duke University, USA (2017, Carnegie Fellowship); Stanford University, USA (2010, Chopivsky Fellowship); University of Toronto (2004−2005, Petro Yacyk Doctoral Scholarship); London School of Economics and Political Science, United Kingdom (2002, Hansard Society for Parliamentary Democracy in cooperation with the Open Society Institute); Oxford University (2001−2002, Foreign and Commonwealth Office Chevening Scholarship in cooperation with Open Society Institute); Westminster College, USA (1998−1999, Open Society Institute Scholarship).

Expert and managerial experience in intergovernmental, governmental and NGO sectors: Vice-Chair of the Council of Europe Steering Committee for Antidiscrimination, Diversity and Inclusion (2021−2022, elected twice by secret ballot of member states’ representatives), Head of the State Service for Ethnic Affairs and Freedom of Conscience (2020−2022), Director of the project “Sociology for Civic Activists: Successful Strategies, Frequently Asked Questions, Typical Mistakes” (2013−2015) at the Social Indicators Centre (Centre for Sociological Research and Solutions for Promoting Openness, Democracy and Humanistic Values in Society), expert cooperation with the Democratic Practice Program Initiative and Civil Society and Good Governance Program of the International Renaissance Foundation (2010−2016), analytical and managerial work at the International Organization for Migration, Mission in Ukraine (2007−2009).


Research Interests : democracy, democratization and de-democratization; sociology of religion; sociology of personality, sociological perspectives on social psychology, subjective well-being studies; institutional frameworks for ensuring equal rights and opportunities; state integration policies in the contexts of ethnic, religious and language diversity; social research methodology.
