The chapter highlights the topic of social protection and social support for military personnel, veterans. It is noted that the long-term performance of combat missions by militaries, their staying at the front, has a huge impact not only on their material, social and psychological condition, but also on the functioning of their families, which as a result can lead to a decrease in the level of their social well-being and getting into difficult life circumstances. The problems associated with the social protection of veterans and their families in the process of transition to civilian life are highlighted. Attention is focused on the fact that the challenges the country is forced to face absolutely require the improvement of the state policy principles, a clear vision of the complex of mechanisms for its implementation, specific measures and final results in the field of social protection of veterans. It is substantiated that the system of social protection of veterans and former military personnel requires a radical reformatting, in particular, modernizing approaches in determining the legal status of veterans, their social support, introducing a system of transition from military career to civilian life, and providing services for their prompt recovery and integration into the socio-economic community life.
